The Stevens Chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World was founded by David J. D'Agostino and Liem Nguyen, two green-minded 4th year engineering students in the spring semester of 2013. Both students had been a part of sustainability focused clubs throughout their collegiate careers, and recognized a crucial piece missing in their clubs on their campus. Their vision was to be a part of an organization which would utilize students to work to create sustainability focused projects, putting the technical theory taught in lecture halls to action in the name of creating a more green minded campus and campus culture. So when these students at Stevens discovered Engineers for a Sustainable World it was a no brainer, they knew it was the missing piece to the puzzle!
The recently founded Stevens chapter's purpose is to combine the knowledge, skills, and experience of the Stevens community to promote engineering solutions for social, environmental, and economic problems on campus, and in the local community, by establishing projects and initiatives which raise environmental awareness and educate students on the subject of sustainability. They intend to hit the ground running next semester, focusing their efforts on three initial projects, a community/outreach and education campaign, and sustainable engineering focused lecture series, and a green roof construction project working with the school's facility department.
