Working in collaboration with General Electric and St. John's Episcopal Church of Troy, NY, the Haiti team successfully designed and implemented a small photovoltaic system for the School of the Holy Spirit in Lascahobas, Haiti. Their national unemployment rate is extremely high and the school believes knowledge of basic computing skills, like Microsoft Word and Excel, will help give its students a better chance for success. The solar array provides power for lighting and charging the laptops. Computers had been previously provided by the One Laptop per Child Program and Rensselaer also donated many additional laptops. Installation of this array was completed in January 2010, just prior to the devastating earthquake - the system, students, and school survived. Contact is maintained through St. John's church.
